Whether it’s criteriums, road races or time trials, the 80 millimeter high Zipp 808 wheels are perfect for any type of race where maximum speed is important. With their legendary Firecrest rim shape, the 808 ensure high aero efficiency and crosswind stability. At 23 millimeters, the inner rim width has increased significantly compared to the predecessors. As a result, the rims not only offer wider tires optimal support at low air pressures, they also integrate the tires extremely efficiently into the rim profile in an aerodynamic manner. In addition, the hookless design creates an almost seamless transition between tire and rim flanks. The omission of the hooks also makes the rim flanges more robust in the event of punctures and contributes to the significant weight savings compared to the previous versions. In combination with further optimizations in the structure of the carbon layers, the weight of the wheelset could be reduced to 1635 grams. An optimized rim well ensures easier tire mounting.
Total System Efficiency (TSE)
The 808 wheels were developed under the TSE approach. The development goal was to find the best possible impeller design to overcome the speed barriers that exist under realistic driving conditions. In addition to wind resistance, gravity and rolling resistance, this also includes vibration losses in poor road conditions.
ABC Dimples
The ABLC dimples (depressions on the outside of the rim) help to reduce air resistance and ensure very high crosswind stability, especially with larger angles of attack.
Zipp ZR1 hubs
The Zipp ZR1 hubs were developed in two years of development work in Germany. Its outstanding feature is the extremely finely toothed freewheel body design of the rear wheel hub with 66 locking points per wheel revolution, which allows the ZR1 to react to acceleration without delay. The fine toothing is realized via a system of 6 pawls, of which 3 pawls engage offset. The design of the seals is based on the high-end Cognition hubs and provides more protection and durability with a larger dust cap behind the freewheel body and better seals.
Zip Lifetime Warranty
Zipp gives you a lifetime guarantee on your Zipp wheel if used properly. The warranty also includes racing and damage caused by rider error, as long as the wheel has been used for its intended purpose. The guarantee only applies to the original purchaser and proof of purchase is mandatory!
NOTE: Due to the hookless profile, the Zipp 808 wheels are only suitable with the use of ETRTO-compliant tubeless tires. However, the corresponding tubeless tires can be ridden with tube on the wheels without any problems. You can find an overview of all compatible tires for your Zipp hookless wheelhere .
