Is it possible to perfect what is already the fastest derailleur cage system? Ceramicspeed asked itself this question and worked together with the aerodynamics experts at Drag2Zero to find a solution. And the answer is: it is possible. An almost closed cage encloses the shift rollers and the guide plates and ensures that the air flows past unhindered. In addition, braking turbulence is avoided. Numerous tests in the wind tunnel have shown that air resistance has been reduced by up to 60% compared to conventional derailleurs. And for all those who like to stand out, the OSPW derailleur cage system comes with a pinstripe graphic, which visually ensures high speed.
The tried-and-tested Oversized Pulley Wheel System from Ceramicspeed continues to work under the “cover” and ensures a significant reduction in friction. The large rear derailleur pulleys with 15 teeth at the top and 19 teeth at the bottom significantly minimize the movement of the chain links as they pass through the cage, resulting in less resistance. In addition, the enlarged cogs offer a longer service life than other standard systems on the market.
Probably the most interesting innovation, however, are the rollers: the teeth, which sit on an aluminum disc, are made of a durable, fiber-reinforced composite material. This ensures that the chain runs very quietly and smoothly. However, the most important aim of the development work was to avoid contamination in the bearing area, which is exactly what the patent-pending Active Debris Remover (ADR) system does. Directly on the contact surface with the ball bearing, the washer has a lamellar, toothed profile, which ejects all dirt during movement and prevents dirt from penetrating the interior in the first place. In addition, the closed design prevents twigs or small sticks from getting caught in the pulleys and possibly causing damage to the cage.
Ceramicspeed’s own high-quality ceramic-stainless steel hybrid ball bearings continue to rotate in the center. These have to compensate for a great deal of friction, as they rotate 4 – 5 times faster than the crank, depending on the gear ratio, and therefore benefit in particular from a low-friction and durable bearing. The Ceramicspeed SpeedBalls are 15% harder than those of the competition and can absorb considerably more force. They also have an incredibly smooth surface, thereby reducing rolling resistance to a minimum. All these improvements have also increased the service life by a factor of 6.
Compared to the already high-quality standard bearings from Ceramicspeed, the “Coated” version installed here has a wafer-thin protective layer applied to the bearing rings. This makes the latter even harder, extends their life cycle by a further 60% and reduces rolling resistance even further. Ceramicspeed ball bearings are therefore considered to be the best in the world.
Ceramicspeed uses only the best materials and the latest technologies in production to ensure the highest possible quality at all times. All products are handmade in Denmark. No hydraulic presses are used during assembly. Manual assembly eliminates manufacturing tolerances and guarantees a perfect fit every time. So that you really only install the best on your bike!
The makers of Ceramicspeed are confident in their products and give a lifetime guarantee on this OSPW system.
Maintenance
It is important to lubricate the bearings carefully to maintain performance and longevity. Simply apply oil to the seals of the bearings so that the oil can penetrate the bearing. Ideally, this should be done when lubricating the chain, after washing the bike or after riding in adverse conditions.
Note
When traveling, please remember to remove the complete rear derailleur with an Allen key, as very few bicycle transport bags offer sufficient space for the OSPW system.
