Originally developed to win the spring classics of the road pros, the current 303 Firecrest generation is the ideal everyday companion for semi-perfect conditions, bad roads and adverse elements. In such conditions, the current 303 is even faster and more efficient than its predecessor. With an inner rim width of 25 millimetres, which is extreme for the road bike sector, the Americans are breaking new ground. As Zipp’s in-house “The Nest” development center found out, 28 millimetre wide road tubeless tires with low air pressures roll significantly better than comparable 25 millimetre tires. Wide all-road tires can demonstrate their rolling resistance and comfort advantages particularly in poor road conditions. Thanks to the large inner rim width, the rims not only offer wider tires optimum support at low air pressures, they also integrate the tires into the rim profile extremely efficiently in terms of aerodynamics. In addition, the hookless design creates an almost seamless transition between the tire and rim flanks. The elimination of the hooks also makes the rim flanges more robust in the event of punctures and contributes to the significant weight saving compared to the previous versions. The tread height has been reduced to 40 millimetres, making the 303 even more agile and easy to control even in gusty winds.
Total System Efficiency (TSE)
The 303 Firecrest wheels were developed using the TSE approach. The development goal was to find the best possible wheel design to overcome the speed barriers that exist under realistic riding conditions. In addition to wind resistance, gravity and rolling resistance, these also include vibration losses in poor road conditions.
ABLC Sawtooth Dimples
The newly designed ABLC Sawtooth dimple design consists of 12 branching points that are synchronized with each other in the rotating wheel. From a frequency of 50 Hz, which corresponds to a speed of 32 km/h, the dimples can exploit their aerodynamic advantages and help you to achieve more speed. However, the dimples not only reduce air resistance, they also ensure very high crosswind stability, especially at larger angles of attack.
Zipp ZR1 hubs
The Zipp ZR1 hubs were developed in two years of development work in Germany. The design of the seals is based on the high-end Cognition hubs and provides more protection and durability with a larger dust cap behind the freehub body and better seals.
Zipp Lifetime Warranty
Zipp grants you a lifetime warranty on your Zipp wheel when used properly. The warranty also covers racing use and damage caused by riding errors as long as the wheel has been used for its intended purpose. The warranty is only valid for the original purchaser and proof of purchase is mandatory!
NOTE: Due to the hookless profile, the Zipp 303 wheels are only suitable for use with ETRTO-compliant tubeless tires.
